Morgenhof Estate is situated on the fertile slopes of the Simonsberg mountain range in Stellenbosch. Historically a wine estate since 1692, we can trace the rich winemaking history of the estate back to the original French Huguenots. At Morgenhof the vineyards are farmed as ‘dry land’, which result in smaller yields and superior concentration of fruit in the berries.
The estate holds a great variety of soil types, mostly granite-derivatives such as Tukulu and Glenrosa, as well as altitudes ranging from 65-400 metres above sea level. By planting cultivars like Sauvignon Blanc in different sites on the estate, it enables us to attain different characteristics and produce wines that reflect the complexities and variation of our area. The terroir of the Simonsberg-Stellenbosch ward favours red cultivars, especially Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, one of the wines Morgenhof is so well known for.
Morgenhof’s portfolio of wines include a mixture of red and white wines, ranging from the fresh Sauvignon Blanc; to the barrel-fermented Chenin Blanc.
The red wine range offers a selection of iconic single varietal wines including our revered Merlot; a vibrant Pinotage, as well as a Bordeaux-style blend which is also the flagship of the Morgenhof range.
Consistent quality throughout the years, typical Stellenbosch Sauvignon Blanc, very pleasing and well-balanced.
The sauvignon blanc grapes are planted very site specific. If you hit two rocks together from this site, you can smell the minerality and flintiness that comes through in the wine.
This wine displays notes of pears, apricots, white flowers and stewed quince fruit.
The well-integrated french oak gives the wine a layer of creaminess yet striking a balance between lush fruit and crisp, mouth-watering acidity.
Wonderful, elegant Chardonnay with subtle oak integration.
The malo-lactic fermentation results in a clean, smooth and lingering finish.
Made from 63% Chardonnay 37% Pinot Noir. Stays on the lees between 2 and 4 years, base wine barrel fermented, rich in style, perfectly paired with a great dessert - panacotta, Crème Brule.
MERLOT CABERNET FRANC
Approachable in style this wine is medium bodied and well-structured and Merlot driven with lots of plums and red berry fruit flavours. cultivar and the best is blended to produce this wine.
CAPE LATE BOTTLED VINTAGE
This fortified wine invites you to a nose filled with black cherries, liquorice, raisins and walnuts.
These flavours follow through to a ripe and rich palate covered with velvety tannins, ending with a perfect balance
A full-bodied red wine - dense in colour and bold in flavour displaying notes of blackberry, tobacco, liquorice and dark chocolate.
It has a pleasant long finish supported by ripe tannins and is best served with venison, ostrich or mature cheeses. Recommended ageing for a further 10 years from vintage
This garnet coloured wine has complex notes of mulberries, cassis, pencil shavings and cigar box.
The wine it self will pair perfectly well with venison, ostrich and oxtail. The aging potential for this wine is 10-15years.
An outstanding Merlot produced from 4 blocks ranging between 15-20 years in age.
This wine stands out as a voluptuous Merlot made in a well structured way, with a full and
fruit-driven palate and good tannin structure.
A firm favourite at Morgenhof, the Cabernet Sauvignon is a wine with rich dark notes of bramble, cassis and black cherries.
The wine is complemented by a variety of meaty dishes from rib eye steak to roast pork and game. It also pairs well with tomato based dishes
The signature wine, produced in only the best vintages. The grapes are hand-picked and hand-sorted, which means great care is taken with the selection process.
A wine that is drinking well now, but will age in the bottle for up to 12 years from vintage.
